ARECOD distributing male condoms
Period of Activity: April 28 to May 2, 2025
Location: Dzaleka Refugee Camp and surrounding areas
Dzaleka refugee camp currently hosts around 60,000 people, including refugees and asylum seekers of different nationalities and
cultures. In this context, the taboo surrounding sexual practices is even stronger, which makes access to information and prevention difficult. For
this reason, the Refugee Association for Community Development (ARDC), in English Association of Refugees for Community Development
(ARECOD), decided to hold awareness talks on sexually transmitted diseases ( STDs ) and distribute male condoms. The initiative is developed in
partnership with the UBUNTU-NAÇÃO project, which works with humanitarian actions in Dzaleka, Malawi , with the aim of preventing STDs ,
including HIV/AIDS.
Thus, ARDC/ARECOD has several projects planned to benefit the community. Therefore, we request the support and partnership of
governmental and non-governmental organizations — local, national and international — to contribute to the development of our community, in
alignment with our mission.
The activities were carried out according to the defined target areas. Below, we present the action plan:
- Total Condoms Distributed: 4,280 units
- Total Participants Reached: 319 people
- Women: 143
- Men: 176
- Number of Target Locations: 11
- Distribution Team:
- Gershon Heri;
- Gerry;
- Akembe;
- Chibúla Byaombe;
- Nahayo Christine;
- Kashindi Wa Asúungile
Promote sexual and reproductive health among the Dzaleka camp community through the free distribution of male condoms, combined with
awareness-raising sessions on HIV, correct condom use and prevention of Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs).
